In June 2024 over twenty Officers from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines reunited down in Quantico, VA, at the “Cross Roads of the Marine Corps”. Most of us served together from 1988-1991, serving under Lt Colonel Robert Parrish and then mentored and developed under the leadership of then Lt Colonel Bob “Conan” Cohen. We were based out of Camp Pendleton before the unit transferred out with the 7th Marines in June 1990 to 29 Palms before those of us still with the battalion shipped off to Saudi Arabia as the first wave of Marines to protect the pre-positioned supplies arriving from Diego Garcia during the buildup of forces ahead of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines under the Command of Lt Colonel Robert Mauer, conducted combat operations as part of Task Force Grizzly.

During our Reunion, one of our Marine brothers shared the work he was doing on behalf of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. The MCSF’s mission is profound to “Honor Marines by Educating Their Children” struck a chord with many of us that evening resulting in donations to this important cause. We intend to deploy these funds to provide scholarships for the children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen who at some point served with 2/7. Ultimately, we would like to fund an endowment that can provide scholarships for the children of 2/7 Marines and Navy Corpsmen in perpetuity.

In honor of all of those who have served with 2/7 over the years, please consider making a donation to support a scholarship to further the education of our Marine children. These scholarships go a long way in giving these fine young men and women a leg up in their pursuit of higher education or Career Technical opportunities.

There is no more noble cause.
